Deck-ade the halls – Vintage Ornaments

Here is the next block in the Fat Quarter Shop QAL! This one turned out so cute, I love it! It did seem to take me forever to finish, definitely the smallest piecing I’ve done, especially compared to the large scale Heartthrob top I’ve been working on. But well worth it because these ornaments turned out adorably 🙂 I’m excited to get going on the next couple blocks of this quilt, now that the smallest blocks are out of the way.

Deck-ade the Halls – Star Studded

I completed block #2 for the Fat Quarter Shop Deck-ade the Halls QAL called Star Studded. I went back and forth for a while on fabric choices before settling on the aqua and red. These didn’t make a big impact on me initially after seeing a few in the Flickr group, it wasn’t until I spent HOURS working on this to finish it that I appreciated it. These little stars look so simple to make, and they probably are for some people, but I just don’t have the experience yet doing small size piecing to think it was so simple!

I love how they turned out, now I just need to get going on the next couple blocks…I’m definitely not keeping up 🙂

I have been looking for a Christmas quilt pattern for a couple months to use up my Joy by Kate Spain fat quarters. I sketched a design out but I don’t have any software at this point to make it digital and I’m far too lazy to figure out fabric requirements and measurements by hand. I don’t remember where I saw this QAL for the first time, but once I saw the finished quilt I thought it looked like a great pattern to use. The Fat Quarter Shop  is hosting this QAL on their blog and I’ve completed the first block, Three Wise Gingerbread Men.

I used a couple Christmasy stash fabrics, and the aqua color if from the Joy line. I think they turned out really cute, but I am not used to this fussy style of piece work, it felt like it took my FOREVER to cut out, sew and press this block.
